Finding Work

There are various ways of finding work, some are segmented to their industry and others cater for the entire work spectrum. Local newspapers, employment agencies and online websites are just a few of the places where you can look for vacancies. Being prepared before you start your job search generally gets the best results. Having a checklist outlining what you should do to keep yourself motivated and "ready for interview" would be a good place to start. Use the checklist below as a guide to get yourself started and if you run into trouble you can always pop in to see us and ask or for the National Careers Service service please ring 0800 100 900.

Work Search Checklist

  • CV up to date - Pay extra attention to your work history and qualifications.
  • Knowledge - It helps to know your industries history and future.
  • Website registration - Most sites require you to register for new jobs offering in the form of RSS feeds etc.
  • Be patient - It isn't going to happen over night or possibly within the week.
